Comic-Con International 2010

Hello, dear readers! Stephanie and I are off to San Diego this afternoon to revel in the glory that is Comic-Con. Sadly, we did not do a table this year. However, we'll still be there wandering around, photosynthesizing the radiation of wondrous nerd majesty and exhaling a fine mist of Conjoined Comics magic in return.

We'll be doing a series of what I can only imagine will be epic, face-meltingly awesome podcasts from the Con, which you can follow here. I'll also post them to my Twitter account (AdaEngine), so you can listen there, too.

Now you might be thinking to yourself, Wait, no table means NO ROBOT DRAWINGS, right!?!?!? But you'd be wrong. No table means FREE robot drawings. If you can spot me and Stephanie at the Con, then yes, I will be happy to draw you the very finest robot punching out anything you like. And because I'm not a registered vendor, I'll have to give it to you gratis. ("That means 'free of charge'," explained Al Swearengen, as he tossed back a shot of Scottish rocket fuel.)

Happy Comic-Con, everyone! Hope to see you there.

Just dropping in to say howdy, dear readers. We've got some new action on the comics page for your pleasure/misery, we're gearing up for our good old friend Comic-Con (she's peeking 'round that corner once again), and shuttling to and fro 'twixt jobs and nonsense and skullduggery of every description. Y'know, the usual. Another day above ground, another day wiggling those opposable thumbs at whatever the world lobs this way. Life is good. Hope it's treating you folks decent, too.

Wonder Con Wrap-Up! Weekly Comics!

Tremendous thanks to everyone who came out and supported us at Wonder Con in San Francisco this weekend. Thanks to Roger Chang of Revision 3 for spreading the word about Conjoined Comics and giving us a plug on Tekzilla (around the 6:45 mark). And most importantly, thanks to all of our constant and new readers. You guys made this show a success and a pleasure for us, and it was good to see so many familiar faces at the table.

We've got a new Emogician webcomic up this week, so check that out and check out the whole archive of pouty, miserable fun. As you may have noticed, we're actually doing this on a weekly basis now. Woo! That's right, we're here to reliably satisfy your need for bitter LOLs.

In other news, we're currently working on some kind of iPad/Kindle/eReader-type format for our comics, for those of you would like to ingest To the Power Against dipped in a delicious coat of modern technology. We'll update you as soon as we've got it all figured out. (And by "we", I mean Stephanie. I will be eating bon-bons during this process.)

Ok, folks, Stephanie and I will now withdraw into the misty, shadowy comics cave to continue our dark magical work. Cheers!

We'll be in our favorite spot, SP-03, just look for the Conjoined Comics banner. To help you out, here is a map with Pac-Man pellets* to lead you:

Hello, world! It's Ada Lovelace Day!

Ada Lovelace (1815–1852) was the daughter of the poet Lord Byron, a translator, a gambler, a mathematician, a respected friend of Charles Babbage, and the author of the first computer program, all at a time when ladies were expected to be beautiful and polished, but were patently not encouraged to be scholars. Though Ada was largely forgotten for the next hundred years, her work was rediscovered in the 1950s, and in the 1980s the United States Department of Defense named the "Ada" programming language in her honor. Today, she is a feminist and steampunk icon.

We created the character of Catalina Jones and the story of To the Power Against so that gals might embrace a strong heroine with a solid mind, a stout heart, and a background in science. Cat is a tip of the hat to Ada, and to all women—past, present, and future—who grind out a life and a legacy in the worlds of mathematics and science, no matter the odds.

Today, you might feel inspired to Google ol' Ada and find out more about her life, or pick up a copy of The Difference Engine, or finally take a look at that Python tutorial you downloaded last month. But if I might make a suggestion, why don't you take time today to encourage the girls in your life to get involved in science and math. Your daughter, your niece, that kid with the pigtails who keeps parking her bike in your driveway, I don't care. Share a youtube of an awesome magnesium fire, hand out a soldering iron or three, or some batteries 'n' bulbs, or the guts of an old computer, or by golly, show them how they can use an innocent-looking jumble of code to shout out "HELLO, WORLD!" ok? Let 'em all know: NERD GIRLS WILL INHERIT THE EARTH!! (Actually, nerd girls will probably inherit MARS. You hear me? MARS. It will be freakin' amazing. Get it done, ladies.)

The cool kids over at Finding Ada have lots of information and links celebrating Ada Lovelace and the contributions of women in science and technology.

End transmission.

Conjoined Comics is Back

Hello all! We're back with a new look and some new content to share.

We've added a Comics section to the site where we'll be posting something (cross fingers) weekly. To get it started off, we've posted the first two Emogician mini comics for your enjoyment. These have mostly been available at conventions, so if you haven't been able to pick them up, take a look... and weep magic tears.

To The Power Against issue #5 is underway! After that, we are one issue away from completing the first arc! Unbelievable, I know, considering our breakneck pace so far.

In show news, we have secured a place at Wonder Con, coming up on April 2nd–4th. We'll be in Small Press at table SP-03, under the mighty Conjoined Comics banner. We'll have To The Power Against #1–4 with a preview of issue #5 as well as copies of Emogician for anyone craving authentic Xerox mini comics. Carrie will most likely do sketches of a robot punching out anything you like and I will handle any non-robot-punching-related art requests.

Hope to see you there!

High-Ho, Constant Readers!

Our stand-alone book "The Yeti" has gone to print just in time for the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco next weekend. Stephanie came up with some outstanding illustrations and the cover is just awesome. The story's not too shabby, either. We'll also have issues 1–4 of "To The Power Against" and the usual heap of our sulky, samizdat' darling, "Emogician".

More info as the Expo approaches. Come see us!
